This feisty cabaret – a world premiere reading – brings to life the man who was Cleveland’s most powerful newspaper columnist from 1931-68: a worldclass bon vivant who told Cleveland what to eat (pigs feet and beans at a jazz joint on Cedar Ave.) and what to drink (champagne cocktails at the Ritz Hotel in Paris). Openly gay, Winsor created a carnival world for himself and his friends including Marlene Dietrich and Cole Porter, who played him the score for Anything Goes before the show even opened on Broadway. You’ll hear outrageous stories – Winsor published the price of illegal booze and gave readers his best hangover cures – plus great songs by Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Noel Coward.
