Fascinating Rhythms: Fred Astaire and American Song (Parts 1 and 2)

PART 1
March 4 (4:00 PM)
Lakeland Community College

PART 2:
March 18 (3:00 PM)
Tri-C Metropolitan Campus
Main Stage Theatre

Last year this concert proved so popular that we’ve created a sequel – and you can enjoy both within two weeks of each other. Sure, Mr. Astaire was a great dancer, but how did he become a cultural icon? And why did that small, thin voice of his attract the finest songwriters of his era, including the Gershwin brothers, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter? We’ll explore these and other fascinating questions and perform a slew of the songs that he introduced. In Part 1 (1924-39) they include “S’Wonderful,” “Cheek to Cheek” and “A Foggy Day.” Part 2 (1940-68) features “One for My Baby,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” and more.

Hosted by Bill Rudman and Joe Hunter with vocalist Vince Mastro.

Special thanks to this concert's lead media sponsor, WKHR 91.5.
